What are Heavy Metals and why should you avoid them?
Heavy Metals are naturally-occurring elements, such as lead, mercury, arsenic, and cadmium.   While
some, like iron and zinc, are essential in trace amounts, many other heavy metals serve no nutritional
purpose and are toxic even at low levels.
Why Avoid:
You should avoid Heavy Metals because they are bioaccumulative, meaning your body absorbs them faster than it gets rid of them.   Over time, this build-up can cause the following:
Organ Damage
Research has shown that Heavy Metals can cause systemic failure in the kidneys, liver, and lungs.
Neurological Issues
Research has shown that Mercury and Lead are are potent neurotoxins that can impair memory, cognitive function, and motor skills.
Developmental Delays
Children are especially vulnerable to Heavy Metals, as research has shown that exposure can lead to life-long learning disabilities and behavior problems.
How To Avoid Heavy Metals:
How To Avoid Lead:
Avoid old paint, contaminated soil, aging water pipes
How To Avoid Mercury:
Avoid eating large fish (like Tuna and Swordfish) because every time they eat smaller fish, they accumulate Mercury.
How To Avoid Arsenic:
Avoid drinking contaminated ground water, eating food that has been sprayed with certain pesticides, rice, rice products, and root vegetables (rice and root vegetables absorb Arsenic from the ground, even if they are labeled "Organic)."
How To Avoid Cadmium:
Avoid eating Sunflower Seeds, Nori, and sea plants that have not been tested for Heavy Metal contamination (even if they
are labeled "Organic").
